Coastal Inshore Fishing

Amazing day!!! We booked a half day trip with Captain Kevin Malone on a clear beautiful sunny day! Captain Malone was busy getting the boat ready for us upon our arrival, he provided water, beer, soda and some homemade macaroni salad (delicious) and hard boiled eggs! After about a 90 minute run or so we were ready to fish, fist up my boyfriend reeled in a 40 lb mahi mahi! After landing the fish Capt Malone quickly offered to take photos as they lose their color fast! What a great memory we have with a beautiful fish! Thanks cap'n! Next we caught live bait and quickly caught a sailfish! What a treat the trip was. The boat was comfortable, clean and well equipped. Captain Malone was professional, fun and had great conversation about his background, his history in the area and was very knowledgeable about fishing! We couldn't have asked for a better experience. Sport fishing is a sure bet for your visit!

Another incredible fishing trip with a very experienced fisherman captain Kevin! My dad and I came to Costa Rica specifically to fish with captain Kevin. I fished with Kevin 6 years ago and he was very knowledgeable about the fishing grounds and the techniques of catching inshore and offshore fish. We did two offshore days and one "fish for food" inshore day and we had success on all trips with 100 lb sails and tasty inshore fish to plate. When you fish with Kevin you will understand very quickly that this is a love for fishing that he is bringing on each trip. He's a very knowledgable fisherman and boat captain. We are already planning our next fishing trip in Costa Rica with him. Great experience!

Awesome deep sea fishing charter. Kevin made our deep sea fishing charter one to remember. He is very quick to respond to questions before the trip and is an excellent fishing guide. We had a great day on the water with Kevin. Highly recommend booking a fishing trip with Kevin!

Great first-time offshore trip with my Dad and Son. Captain Kevin was a great host and very professional for my first offshore fishing experience including my 75 year old Dad and 13 year old son. Caught our first sailfish and ready to return for more in the future! Highly recommended.

This was a very memorable day out, the fishing was first rate and we also saw a lot of wildlife - turtles, dolphins. Capt Kevin was everything we wanted from a skipper, a very competent fisherman and professional captain who let us get on with fishing and was on hand if we needed help. He was also very patient with our 11 year old and helped make the day a great success. We caught 6 sailfish from 7. It was worth every penny in our view.

Caught a TON of Sailfish in just 2 days offshore. My 6 day visit (2/18 - 2/23) was set up to assess Costa Rica as a final destination for this retired marine biologist and especially its offshore big game fishing situation. As someone who has fished all over the world, I had selected CR as the best potential spot for my retirement and I was not disappointed! Kevin Malone, owner of Diablo Sportfishing, is a top notch charter captain, extremely skilled in all the little details of big game fishing (such as rigging ballyhoo baits to look to a sailfish as if it were a real swimming baitfish) that make all the difference between just a nice boat ride vs. a day filled with the best fishing one could possibly enjoy (as I experienced with him, twice). The night before, we had decided to target sailfish offshore on my two days, so we got up early and Kevin drove his center console about 25 miles across a choppy Pacific to an underwater mountain known as the Furuno Bank where we fished both days. On day 1 we raised 9 sailfish and brought 7 to the boat to be fully revived prior to their release – which I viewed as an extremely good day’s outing. But he topped that performance the following day, going 9 for 11. These sailfish are big, 7 to 8 feet long and ours were about 90 to 125 lbs – more than twice as large as those I’ve caught in the Florida Keys – and since they spend a lot of energy jumping, sailfish are spectacular to fight. Ours usually took about 20-25 minutes to finally bring close enough for Kevin to grab their bill and remove the circle hook before release. On day 2, I had 30 minutes left on my charter “clock” but told Kevin to just “head for the barn” as I was exhausted. All told, our sailfish would have added up to about 2,000lbs! Can’t imagine better fishing

Highlight of our trip! We were trying to find an offshore charter in Quepos for a couple of weeks. The responses were sporadic, prices were high, and the availability was limited. We decided after much frustration to look in Uvita. I emailed Kevin who responded next day. We were on his boat 2 days later. It was the highlight of our trip. We caught 2 giant sailfish. I've never been on a deep sea fishing charter, but the process was flawless. Kevin appeared to really know his stuff. I would definitely recommend

This was my third trip with Kevin, went out last January with three other guys for sails, got two nice fish, we had an excellent time even though it was pretty rough.Went inshore with Kevin twice this month. Both trips were greaattt. First trip was two couples, we caught about 9 jacks, great fun, not what you want to eat though. Second trip was just two guys it was a little slow until Kevin caught us some sardines then all hell broke loose as we caught the first Roosters of the season. Then we caught two mackerel. Great trips, thanks Kevin. If you want to fish with a knowledgeable guide and you are in the Uvita area Kevin is your man.

We did the full day to catch some larger sailfish. We went out and saw dolphins and dolphins and dolphins galore. We stopped counting at around 100. We saw sea turtles with birds sitting on them by the dozens. We saw flying fish, humpback whales, sea birds and more. Then we caught baitfish and hit the sea running. We learned dolphins are smart and have learned to steal baitfish off the line so you have to avoid them. Hard to do as they follow you. But Kevin is such a pro. All by himself he is captaining the boat to find the best spots, running a bait line, two Marlin lines and three sailfish lines. We got a double sailfish hit and landed them both and then landed two more and only lost one. It was AWESOME! We had a great lunch, plenty of cold drinks and snacks and we learned so much. Lots of fist bumping and smiles all around.
